Torrey organizers invite county legislators to sign 175th-anniversary time capsule

Grant Downs of the Town of Torrey urged the Yates County Government Operations Committee to participate in the town's 175th-anniversary time capsule project, thanking the Legislature for a recent commemorative resolution and inviting members to an open house on Aug. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.
"That resolution we intend to include in our time capsule," Downs told the committee, and said the capsule will be buried in September after an opportunity to sign it at the open house. He described items already collected for the capsule, saying it will include artifacts such as "a half-point milk bottle of the Carl Ayers and Sun Farm for the Penn Yan Dairy" and copies of magazines that reflect current technology and culture.
Downs said third-grade students in Penn Yan filled out questionnaires that the town intends to include. Emilee Miller, legislative clerk, was asked to distribute formal invitations to committee members. The committee took no formal action during public comment; the invitation and information were accepted as provided.
