Board approves sufficiency resolutions for county and two charters; consent agenda passes unanimously

The Merced County Board of Education on Sept. 15 approved three separate resolutions declaring that schools operated by the Merced County Office of Education, Merced Scholars Charter School, and Come Back Charter School each have sufficient instructional materials for fiscal year 2025–2026. The resolutions — Nos. 2025-34, 2025-35 and 2025-36 — were presented by Director of Educational Services Tara Hill and were each adopted after public hearings that drew no public comment.
Board action on the instructional-materials items was unanimous. Resolution No. 2025-34 (MCOE schools) passed on a motion by Geneva Brett, seconded by Frank Fagundes; Resolution No. 2025-35 (Merced Scholars Charter) passed on a motion by Ryan Heller, seconded by Fagundes; and Resolution No. 2025-36 (Come Back Charter) passed on a motion by Frank Fagundes, seconded by Rodrigo Espinosa. Each motion carried with a vote of 5-0. The hearings were conducted in compliance with Education Code 60119, as noted in the staff presentation.
The board also approved the Consent Agenda by a single motion (Rodrigo Espinosa moved; Geneva Brett seconded), which included minutes from Aug. 18, 2025; Resolution No. 2025-31 recognizing Oct. 12–18, 2025, as the Week of the School Administrator; Resolution No. 2025-32 proclaiming October 2025 as Character Education Month; and Resolution No. 2025-33 honoring Mikee-D Love-Asenjo. That motion carried 5-0.
