Council approves one‑year Main Street parking pilot; 48‑space lot to move from 4‑hour to 8‑hour limit

The Placentia City Council approved a one‑year pilot on June 17 to extend the time limit in the Main Street public parking lot from four hours to eight hours and to convert the parking space in front of 109 West Santa Fe (the Golden State Coffee Roasters block) from a two‑hour zone to a 15‑minute turnover space.

Staff reported the Main Street lot has 48 spaces and that a 2023 parking count found a maximum of about 26 cars at peak occupancy (roughly 54 percent), and a May 2025 photo showed only about 10 cars. "Staff believes that an 8 hour, time limit on that Main Street lot increasing from a 4 hour to 8 hour, time limit would provide a little more flexibility to those, local businesses, alleviate congestion, of street parking, and free up space in the shorter time restricted lots," the staff presentation said. Councilmembers asked how the pilot would interact with broader parking studies and were told the council could end the pilot early if a citywide program is adopted. The motion to approve passed with a recorded vote of 4 yes, 1 not voting.

As part of the pilot, staff recommended consistent enforcement to prevent misuse of the 15‑minute turnover space and sign changes to reflect the new limits; the council asked staff to return with implementation details as needed.
