Waxhaw awards $1.613M contract to Widewaters for Pine Oak/Waxhaw‑Marvin intersection

Assistant town engineer James Kelly described the project scope: a 90‑degree realignment of the intersection, signalization, new turn lanes required by NCDOT, a no‑turn‑on‑red condition to address existing sight‑distance issues and a construction schedule that will build a parallel roadway to minimize detours. Staff said construction is expected to begin the week after board approval and last approximately six to seven months, with the majority of work complete by December pending lead times for signal poles.
The motion to award the contract carried on a voice vote. Staff said the project is designed to mitigate safety issues (including a documented fatality at the intersection) and prepare for the upcoming Waxhaw‑Marvin bridge replacement project scheduled by NCDOT. The board authorized the manager to execute the contract and directed staff to provide standard construction notices and changeable message boards in advance of work.
