Sheriff reports low February call volume, rising staffing and field training progress

The sheriff's representative (S5) provided the month's public-safety update: February call volume was low with most incidents traffic-related. The representative reported 104 total calls, 62 traffic incidents and 44 citations issued.
"For the month of February... it was pretty low call volume. Most of the incident numbers are traffic related," the sheriff's representative reported, and added that there were a couple of person-crime and child-abuse cases handled during the month.
Staffing levels are improving, the representative said: four officers completed field training in February, ten officers are currently in field training and two are in the academy and expected to finish in May. The representative said the department expects staffing levels to continue increasing and said community feedback suggested a positive reaction to increased presence.
Council members thanked the department for the update and asked clarifying questions about the field-training timeline; the representative explained the program is typically a 12-week on-the-job training period, often extended to 16 weeks before final evaluation.
