District principals report student accomplishments, lower behavior referrals and busy spring activities

Multiple school leaders used the April 16 board meeting to report programs and student accomplishments across the district.
Talent Middle School Principal Casey Olmstead thanked staff for supporting student trips to the Black Youth Leadership Summit and described the Pirate-to-Raiders SOU pathway that mentors Latino/a/x students toward direct admission; he also highlighted eighth-grader Liam Pemble, who is "currently second in the nation for eighth graders in javelin." PHS Principal Kalin Cross praised staff for extended advisory and forecasting work and noted support for spring staffing changes. Orchard Hill Elementary Principal Kent Vallier said expanding a halftime behavior specialist to a full-time role reduced "regulation station" visits for a comparable week from 94 to 60, which staff said kept more students in class and learning.
PTRA Principal Aaron Santi previewed a large family engagement trip to Wildlife Images and reminded the board that Smarter Balanced testing is in progress for grades 3–8 and 11. Directors thanked staff and volunteers for extracurricular and student-engagement activities throughout the district.
