Kinderhook says Albany Avenue improvements may be delayed without state sign-off

Village officials told trustees June 11 that the Albany Avenue Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement Project still lacks final approval from the New York State Department of State (NYS DOS). Board members were warned that if DOS does not provide approval by June 30, the Village will be unable to move forward with construction this summer.
Mayor Dorene Weir said supporting documents for related NYF/DRI (New York Forward/ Downtown Revitalization Initiative) projects — including Albany Avenue and a bandstand and lighting project — have been executed with a contract start date of July 1, 2025, while other projects (Rothermel Parks) remain in draft and under review. Staff noted a meeting scheduled June 12 to resolve outstanding issues on one project before submission to NYS DOS.
The status of state approvals will determine whether the village can proceed with construction this summer and affects scheduling and contractor procurement.
