Walmart gains approval for online pickup expansion, adding dedicated stalls in Metcalf lot

The Planning Commission approved a preliminary development plan (PDP 2026-20) for a Walmart expansion at 5015–700 Metcalf Avenue that will enclose about 5,300 square feet to consolidate online pickup and delivery operations and increase dedicated customer pickup stalls on site from 11 to 39. Staff emphasized a revised and enhanced landscaping plan to address prior complaints and to improve the site's perimeter plantings.
Applicant representative Craig Winkelman said the enclosed area will centralize online operations so associates are not required to retrieve orders from multiple parts of the store, while parking improvements add more dedicated stalls for online customers. "We're proposing to increase the parking for dedicated spots for online pickup delivery to 39 stalls rather than 11," Winkelman said. The commission approved the preliminary development plan 8–0 and staff will review architecture and final design with the applicant prior to building permits.
