Junius town judge to step down; resident expresses interest in vacancy

Judge Brian Erway informed the Junius Town Board that he has submitted his resignation effective Feb. 1, 2026, and the board formally accepted it. Councilman Kyle Black moved to accept the resignation and the motion passed 5–0.
A local resident, Joe Smith, told the board he is interested in the Town Judge position and raised questions about clerk support and training. "He understands the training that is involved and was inquiring about hiring a clerk and getting the clerk trained also," the minutes state. The board noted that Shannon from Judicial 7 will appoint a successor.
The resignation creates a vacancy that the town expects Judicial 7 to fill; Judge Erway also said there is an eviction scheduled for February that the court will handle prior to his departure. The board took no additional personnel action at the meeting and did not announce an interim appointment.
