Mesquite ISD introduces five new administrators at Aug. 10 board update

Dr. Rivera opened the Aug. 10 board update by introducing a slate of administrators who will join Mesquite ISD this school year. "So we welcome miss West to Mesquite ISD," he said, introducing Verlene West as academic dean for Vanguard High School with nearly 30 years in education and prior service as an associate principal in DeSoto ISD.
Dr. Rivera also announced Gilbert Duane King as the district's coordinator for safety and security, noting King brings more than 25 years with Mesquite Police Department and experience as a school resource officer and certified instructor. The update named Dr. Claudia Calvo as assistant principal of Beasley Elementary School and introduced Christopher Ladson as assistant principal at Poteet High School, who "returns to Mesquite" after earlier district service beginning in 2007. Jeremy Sanders was announced as assistant principal at West Mesquite High School; Dr. Rivera said Sanders most recently served as instructional leader at Agnew Middle School.
The district presented each hire to the community as part of the board update; Dr. Rivera framed the introductions as confirmations of continuity and experience across campus leadership positions.
