Borough Solicitor Wright presented a draft amendment to Pitman's sign ordinance that would limit banners to government use and prohibit posting banners in the right of way. Councilman Mazzola suggested explicitly adding Pitman Avenue and Holly Avenue to the ordinance because banners currently extend off Broadway onto those streets. Mayor Razze clarified that banners over County roads would not be affected by the municipal ordinance.
Councilman Uyehara asked whether the proposed changes would affect ribbons or other items posted on lampposts. Solicitor Wright said the ordinance's current language is broad and "there may be a need for a clause to specifically define banners and their use separate from the other items included in the sign ordinance." The council did not adopt the amendment at the work session; Solicitor Wright will refine the language for future consideration.
