Commissioners asked why several projects show long gaps between design completion and construction starts — for example, a bridge design scheduled to complete in 2027 with construction not slated until 2031 — and pressed staff to seek funding to shorten those gaps and to continue producing designs so projects can move quickly when funds become available. Staff said constrained staffing and project sequencing were part of the reason for the staggered schedule and said they had developed master plans for bridges, stormwater and dredging to prioritize work.
No funding votes were taken at the meeting; staff said they would continue to pursue appropriations and report back on schedule updates at future commission meetings.
