Resident tells Lighthouse Point commission he "feels like I'm taking my life in my hands" while walking at night

Victor Leroux, a Lighthouse Point resident who gave his address as 2315 Northeast 25th Street, told the commission he regularly walks at night and fears for his safety because of missing streetlights, limited sidewalks and speeding motorists.
"I feel like I'm taking my life in my hands because, there's no street lights, and there's really very little sidewalks, and the people are speeding," Leroux said during his three‑minute public comment. He said he has contacted staff previously, wants accident statistics for the area and suggested traffic‑calming measures such as speed bumps or amber lights at turtle nesting areas.
Mayor Van Buskirk and staff told Leroux the police department is monitoring bike and sidewalk issues and that staff would follow up on specific enforcement locations. Leroux later asked whether residents may legally buy radar guns; the chief indicated that purchasing a radar gun is allowed.
The commission did not take immediate action during the meeting but staff acknowledged the request and signaled they would review enforcement data and options for lighting and traffic calming.
