Town of Jay adopts 2025 preliminary budget with $2.32 million tax levy

Supervisor Stanley told the board the budget “calls for the amount to be raised by taxes for the general fund of $746,636.40” and listed district and bond levies across the town that together produced the $2,321,192.40 total. He said the levy is below the town’s tax cap and “about 3.3% over last year.” The board moved to adopt the preliminary budget and approved it on a roll call vote.
Board members who took part in the roll call recorded their affirmative votes; the meeting minutes show the motion carried. The supervisor said the approved preliminary document and then-updated adopted budget will be posted on the town website within days so residents can review line items.
The vote clears the path for staff to post the adopted budget and for the board to finalize any remaining posting and notification steps required by state law.
