Water committee approves $32,457 change order for 300,000‑gallon tank flow meter replacement

The City of Palos Heights Water and Sewer Committee on April 28 approved Change No. 1 for the 300,000‑gallon ground‑level storage tank project, authorizing an additional $32,457.16 to replace the original 16‑inch flow meter with a magnetic flow meter and add a 4‑inch drain valve. Chairman Brennan moved the change‑order approval, Alderman Begley seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Public Works Director Joe Smith said the replacement will provide "an up‑to‑date flow meter which will allow us to get a better sense of how much water is coming and going from that station," and noted that with the change order the project is expected to remain under budget. The committee also approved payments No. 6 and No. 7 to Dahme Mechanical Industries, Inc. totaling $294,024.66 for the tank work; those payments were approved by voice vote with all members in favor. The committee did not alter the project scope beyond the meter and drain valve replacement.
