Council passes introduction of police-hiring amendment, schedules Aug. 5 public hearing

At a July 22 special meeting, the West Long Branch Mayor and Council voted to introduce Ordinance O-26-18, which would amend Ordinance 2-8.5 to allow PTC Class A or Class II certification or academy enrollment to substitute for the current 60-college-credit hiring requirement.
Councilman Sniffen moved and Councilman Cioffi seconded the motion to pass the ordinance on introduction and to set a public hearing for Aug. 5, 2026, at 6:00 PM. The roll-call vote was AYES: Bray, Cioffi, Penta, Ruane, Sniffen; NAYS: Gomez. The motion carried and the ordinance was read on introduction by title only. The clerk recorded that the ordinance, as drafted, states it would take effect upon passage and publication according to law; final adoption will require the scheduled public hearing and a subsequent vote.
