Board approves Heinemann purchases for early-literacy and K–5 writing units using 35j grant funds

She said the purchase will supply fiction and nonfiction sets for kindergarten through second grade and will be paired with professional development provided by staff developers from the Teacher’s College; the board approved the purchase by roll call. Later Miss Joseph requested approval to buy the K–5 writing units of study for up to $59,967.18, also to be paid from 35j funds; the board approved that purchase as well.
Board discussion confirmed the materials would be used across all buildings and that the staff developers previously approved by the board will provide training needed to implement the resources. One board member noted that the materials complete a previously approved professional-development investment and called the purchases "the materials that are now needed in order to complete that loop."
