Monroe schools award Manor parent-loop contract to local bidder; work expected within weeks

The Monroe Public Schools Board of Education voted to award the Manor parent-loop contract to Disbrow Excavation and Trucking, with the district recommending a contract not to exceed $10,000 to be paid from the sinking fund.
Superintendent Shaw told the board three companies submitted bids and said the site is on district property behind Manor School along the fence line. "We were fortunate the city worked alongside of us to grant an easement and a contract with us," Shaw said. Shaw estimated crews could begin as soon as next week and said the district’s worst-case timing for completion is Sept. 23. Board members said the change is primarily a safety improvement that will reduce parent congestion in the neighborhood.
Board discussion focused on timing and safety. One board member said the loop should "actually alleviate all of that congestion in front of Manor when it comes to our parents and, in the pickup," and another added the project would get cars off the road and make dismissal safer for children. The motion to award the contract passed by roll call.
