Council approves purchase and subdivision to expand Human Services space at Algonquin Road

Rolling Meadows City Council unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 26-27 on June 23 to approve a preliminary and final planned development and a plat of subdivision enabling the City to acquire office space at 2202–2230 Algonquin Road for its Human Services facility.
City Manager Rob Sabo described the transaction as part of a yearlong effort and said the project is funded by a $1.5 million grant from the State of Illinois to assist with acquisition and build-out. The proposed purchase requires subdividing a portion of an existing shopping center so Cook County can accept the deed and title insurance can issue; City staff told the council the closing is time-sensitive and delaying approval would push the closing into late July or August.
Council voted 7–0 to move the ordinance forward and then to adopt it so the City can proceed with the scheduled closing. Staff noted the City will own the acquired office spaces while the remainder of the shopping center, including parking and rear alley, remains privately owned and operated.
