"Our annual budget, the revenues are just over $700,000 more," Myers said, and he explained that those increases are not primarily from property taxes but from fees and transfers. Myers told commissioners the draft budget is roughly $80,000 less than the current year but that the mill levy rose because overall county valuation changed; he urged the commission that, absent changes, staff will prepare forms to publish the budget before the Sept. 8 revenue‑neutral rate and budget hearing.
Myers also reviewed individual fund changes: the county's solid‑waste fund shows a notable increase largely tied to higher landfill usage and a planned drawdown (more than $500,000) from unencumbered balances to expand the north‑side transfer station and to purchase a replacement backhoe. He said the commission had previously reduced proposed budget increases and maintained an overall objective to keep the 2027 budget under the 2026 level.
The commission had no objections to moving forward with the publication step; Myers said the forms will be on next week's agenda so the clerk can publish the notice with the required timing for public hearing.
