Commission approves minutes, warrants, reserve funds and authorization to sell surplus vehicles

The Charles City Commission approved several routine but consequential items during its Aug. 3 meeting, including the minutes from July 13 and warrants covering the general fund ($199,829.96), sewer ($63,187.58), power and light ($256,721.05) and trust and agency ($67,213.40).
The commission also formally established two reserve funds included in the 2026 budget — an infrastructure reserve and a parks & recreation reserve — and authorized a parks-and-rec expenditure for a shade structure at Robertson Park following staff presentation. Staff said the Pearson invoice for the shade structure totaled $11,358; the commission voted to authorize the controller to expend the funds from the parks reserve.
Brandon, a city staff member, explained that several fleet vehicles have been replaced as part of the budget process and recommended listing the retired vehicles (a WWTP pickup, a DPW pickup, a DPW mini-dump and a police pursuit Durango) for sale on Auctions International once replacements are outfitted. The commission approved moving forward with the sale process.
