The Shelter Island Town Board on April 27 designated itself lead agency under the State Environmental Quality Review Act, completed Parts 1–3 of the Short Environmental Assessment Form and adopted a Negative Declaration for the proposed acquisition of 2 School Street, finding no significant adverse environmental impacts.
Following the SEQRA determination, the board adopted Resolution 2026-197 authorizing the Supervisor to execute documents to acquire the property for a purchase price not to exceed $791,000, plus survey, title, prorated tax and recording charges. The resolution states that funds for the acquisition will come from the town’s A8660.2 (Acquisition of Real Property) expenditure account.
The resolution text specifies the acquisition cost and directs the Supervisor to execute any required documents. No detailed redevelopment plan was identified at the meeting, and the board noted no proposed physical changes to the site at this time. The Negative Declaration and purchase authorization move the process forward to closing and any subsequent planning decisions.
