Bibb County schools launch new career pathways including advanced manufacturing and AI

Bibb County School District is expanding career pathways that give students hands-on credentials and industry exposure, Superintendent Dr. Dan Sims said on the Makin' Bibb podcast.
"We have our newest one being advanced manufacturing," Sims said, noting cohorts have begun and industry partners were at recent planning events. He added earlier pathway topics included artificial intelligence and electric-vehicle training and cited ongoing collaboration with local employers and higher-education partners to connect classroom learning with real jobs.
Sims described program infrastructure including Hutchings College and Career Academy and partnerships with Central Georgia technical programs and industry partners such as Irving Tissue. He said the district supports multiple post‑graduation options — college, starting a business, direct employment or military service — and is working to align pathways with employer needs.
District leaders emphasized that on-site industry commitments are part of planning and that the pathways are intended to create viable, well-paying alternatives to a traditional four-year college track. "We have it covered from the classroom all the way to industry, and everybody's committed," Sims said.
