North Riverside Fire Department seeks AFG grant, new ambulance cleared by inspectors and offers smoke-detector program

Fire Chief McDermott presented the Fire Department report noting 221 calls in June and a mix of fire and EMS responses. The department submitted an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) application requesting $62,000 to replace its 27-year-old breathing air compressor system to maintain SCBA cylinder support (SEG 082).
Chief McDermott also reported the new ambulance passed the Illinois Department of Public Health and Loyola EMS System inspections and is awaiting issuance of the State operating license before it will be placed into service (SEG 082). Regarding home safety, when asked whether the Village still provides smoke detectors, Chief McDermott said, "If a resident requests a smoke detector the Fire Department will provide it," and added that the department will install any requested detector (SEG 015). The Fire Department's attachment also noted seven smoke detectors were installed in two single-family residences in June (SEG 082).
The AFG request, if funded, would fund replacement of equipment that the department described as beyond its expected service life; the minutes record the grant application but no award at this meeting.
