Jurupa Unified trustees praise back-to-school events, urge caution near schools

Trustee Raquel Ortiz Cornejo opened board-member remarks by thanking organizers of a community backpack giveaway hosted by Councilwoman Veronica Sanchez, calling the event "a great success." She noted additional giveaways — including bikes, scooters and e-bikes — that accompanied the backpacks and supplies.
Trustee Jenny Felix recounted attending her child’s back-to-school night and encouraged parents to volunteer in classrooms and booster clubs. Clerk Pamela Blinn reminded drivers to stop when school buses activate red flashing lights and urged families to enroll in the district’s ParentSquare communications system to receive school updates. "Please remember when you see a bus with flashing lights, you stop on both sides of the road," Blinn said, stressing student safety.
The board also highlighted community services provided before the start of school, including free haircuts at Herba Valley High School and outreach by local nonprofits. President Melissa Bridal noted Peralta Elementary’s 30th anniversary and encouraged students to pursue civic opportunities such as the Riverside County Youth Commission.
