Henrico awards spot bonus to custodial worker who walked 12 miles during storm

Henrico County Manager John A. Vithoulkas recognized Julie Smith, Custodial Maintenance Worker IV, at the Boards Feb. 10 special meeting and presented her with a spot bonus after learning she walked more than 12 miles to get to work during Winter Storm Fern.
Vithoulkas told the Board that Smiths actions went "above and beyond" standard duties and that the County Manager is authorized to grant spot bonuses to employees who perform exceptional work. Julie Smith, who has served the County for more than 14 years, told the Board that walking during the storm was a way to relax and that "coming to work and being around positive people makes her happy." The Board thanked Smith for her service.
