Colton authorizes SECOG to submit BRIC Notice of Intent for municipal generator

At its April 13 meeting, the Colton City Council authorized SECOG to submit a Notice of Intent (NOI) to apply for BRIC (Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities) funding to acquire a generator for the city. The motion, made by Bunjer and seconded by Vande Voort, passed unanimously.
Finance Officer Dawn Pilker asked Sioux Valley Energy for a benefit-cost analysis focused on consequences of loss of power to support the application. The BRIC NOFO materials reviewed by the council note state and national deadlines: a local NOI must be submitted by May 1, 2026, and applications are due to the state by June 5, 2026, with subsequent submittal to FEMA by July 23, 2026. Council discussion noted available cost-share structures in the NOFO and that SECOG will assist with application submission.
