Residents urge limits on height, demand studies and question tree removals at Clinton Inn redevelopment hearing

Dozens of residents spoke during the public hearing on Ordinance 26-14, expressing a mix of opposition and conditional support focused on scale, infrastructure and environmental effects. Several speakers said the proposed height should be limited to four stories, that the downtown lacks capacity for the project's scale, and called for independent studies on fiscal and traffic impacts before further approvals.

One resident said, "I have heard that a profit cannot be made if building is going over 6 feet. She asked why the zoning must change," (spoken by Suzanne) and another asked, "where would the funds come for the additional students that will be coming in from this project" (spoken by Arrin). A resident, Irav Argale, raised a specific environmental concern: "192 trees will be cut at Knickerbocker Country Club." Supporters responded that redevelopment could bring housing and business vibrancy but opponents repeatedly requested a referendum or additional independent analysis; legal counsel said a referendum is unlikely once an area has been designated for redevelopment.
