Construction at new senior center about 20% complete, PBC says

The Permanent Building Committee update delivered by the council's PBC representative reported construction progress and pending FF&E planning for the new senior center. "So right now, construction is about 20% complete," the presenter said, noting structural steel is finished and a time-capsule ceremony had taken place. The committee unanimously approved additional design work for a flex room partition and changes to the nature space; enabling structure for arts-and-crafts and a makerspace was added so the town may locate those uses in future.
Financially, the presenter said there is approximately $3,600,000 remaining in construction contingency and that the project is currently under budget at that amount. Members asked for ongoing project photos and a final construction video; staff said the owner's project manager (OPM) is collecting photos and will provide periodic updates. The council also discussed coordinating the FF&E phase so the COA is represented for furniture and equipment decisions prior to the center opening.
Council members asked whether contingency funds could cover an interior partition or early purchases; staff said contingency is reserved for unforeseen needs and project managers typically approach contingency cautiously. The committee encouraged coordination with the COA on FF&E decisions and sought volunteers to join the FFP working group to ensure elder-program needs are reflected.
