Public Works Director/City Engineer David Swearingen gave the Council a multi-part transportation update, saying: "Xcel Energy was progressing with the installation of the 20\" gas main along Highway 96." He said the installation is expected to continue through the summer and will cause traffic impacts along Highway 96.
Swearingen also reported the 2026 Pavement Management Program contractor has begun spot utility repairs and curb removals in the Karth Lake neighborhood and that the Highway 51 pavement project will require a southbound right lane closure from Old Snelling Avenue to Asbury Street through early August. He attributed significant delays on Highway 51 to unforeseen utility conflicts and said construction is expected to continue into fall.
