Elementary renovation largely on schedule; district to consider JBM change order for waterlines

CHA and district staff briefed the board on the Boyertown Elementary renovation, a two-phase project that addressed HVAC, lighting, ceilings, electrical panels and other building systems. The summer phase covered approximately the front half of the building; work in the back half and the gym is planned for next summer.
CHA reported the project was originally budgeted at about $15,000,000 but bids brought the total to approximately $4,800,000 for one project discussed earlier and another signature figure for this elementary renovation: "our originally budgeted $15,000,000 project came in in, just over $11,000,000," the presenter said. The contractor discovered aging water lines and valves that required replacement for the new HVAC and refrigeration piping; CHA said a JBM change order to replace water lines would reduce contingency by roughly $100,000 but that the overall project still has roughly $500,000 in contingency remaining.
Presenters also described coordination with utilities: UGI installed gas service this week and MedEd agreed to replace an aging transformer at no cost to the district, with that replacement likely to occur in summer 2028 and not as part of the current project. Administration said it would bring the JBM change order to the next legislative meeting for board action.
