Board hears update: new stadium turf and practice field nearing readiness

District administration and CHA project staff presented progress updates on two major summer capital projects: the high-school stadium turf installation and the Bear Cub practice field. CHA's team reported that turf has been installed, GMAX testing has been completed successfully and a 10-year warranty accompanies the work.
CHA intern Aiden Scheck and the project manager walked the board through photos and testing results. As the presenter noted, "there's a 10 year warranty that's included with that." Staff reported infiltration testing passed and reiterated a key design requirement: "the requirements are for 20 inches of rain to pass through that stone in the course of an hour." The administration said the stadium would be ready for athletes next week and that paving of the surrounding asphalt walkway is scheduled for Aug. 24.
Board members asked about grounds crew training and warranty coverage for the track. CHA said multiple grounds crew members received training on grooming equipment provided by the turf manufacturer and that there are no change orders on the field project; the district expects credits for unused material allowances and anticipates returning contingency funds to the appropriate fund balance when final change orders are processed.
