Board appoints Jason Sarawski to fill Region 2 seat

The Boyertown Area School District board voted to appoint Jason Sarawski to the Region 2 school director vacancy created by the resignation of James H. Brophy. The board conducted roll-call voting after nominations and closed nominations when one candidate withdrew; the motion to appoint Sarawski carried unanimously.

Jason Sarawski, one of two nominees put forward during the nomination period, addressed the board during public comment before balloting and said, "I received 49.3% of the votes, and I think we have a unique opportunity here to give, all the constituents of Region 2, the candidate both candidates sitting on the board they voted for in November." After the vote, Sarawski repeated the oath of office administered by a judge and was congratulated by board members.

Board counsel and the secretary explained the procedural rules for filling the vacancy, including that state school code requires five affirmative votes for an appointment and that if the board cannot act, resident electors may petition the Court of Common Pleas of Berks County to request a judicial appointment. With the motion passing by the board vote, the administration said the district would finalize the appointment paperwork and provide a certificate and oath documentation at the next steps.

The appointment was announced as carrying through the December 2027 reorganization meeting. The board's immediate next procedural step was to file the necessary paperwork and present a certificate to the new director.
