Library reorganizes media, adds puzzle collection to boost circulation

CJ Crawford, director-level library staff, reported that library staff recently rearranged the front area to improve browsing and consolidate media. "We have moved the magazines there in the back corner," Crawford said, and the DVDs were relocated behind the circulation desk to free shelf space and avoid showing a format many patrons no longer use.
Crawford said the library also introduced a new donated puzzle collection that patrons can check out. "It's a brand new collection, but didn't cost us anything," she said, adding that the puzzles circulated quickly: staff reported "very, almost a 100 in a month." The move is intended to free display space in the main entry for rotating exhibits and seasonal displays.
Staff said the changes are part of an ongoing effort to maximize limited shelf space and make the library more inviting for different types of users, including families and older adults who attend daytime programs.
