County staff updated the board on a needed storm sewer repair on 500th Avenue in Miles and said the city's available fund balance could cover some or all of the estimated cost. Staff noted the county provides the city about $20,000 annually in FM extension payments and that the city council would need to approve use of its available fund balance for the repair.
"By $30,000, that was just a pure cost estimate," a county staff member said, calling it a ballpark figure that could be higher or lower depending on final pricing. After discussion of options — including whether county program funds might apply — a board member moved and the board approved a motion that the City of Miles be responsible for repair of the 500th Avenue storm sewer. The motion carried without recorded opposition.
County staff indicated they would work with city officials on next steps and noted the city could apply to county programs if necessary; the board's vote assigned primary responsibility to the city rather than authorizing county funding at this meeting.
