Jackson County's engineer told the Board of Supervisors that two bridge projects need to be advanced into the current FY26 letting schedule after recent inspections showed significant substructure deterioration on a 17th Street span. "I think it makes sense to replace it," the engineer said when describing the condition of the 17th Street bridge.
Because the cost estimates put the projects over the public-bid threshold, the engineer recommended public letting to comply with Iowa code. The board approved resolution 1151 to amend the secondary road construction program and advance the 17th Street and 458th Avenue bridges into FY26 so they can be let this winter and constructed next summer. The board discussed bid-threshold changes (the DOT threshold in the record was stated at about $115,000) and the practical implications of moving projects earlier in the five-year plan.
