Pixley PUD declines to retain PFAS settlement counsel; staff to file claim online

District Counsel Chad Lew summarized outreach from a PFAS remediation attorney who suggested PPUD might qualify for portions of recent class-action settlements but noted PPUD’s tests had returned no detections and that PPUD likely does not meet population thresholds for current phases of the claims. Lew described PFAS as “forever chemicals” and reviewed settlement eligibility criteria shared by outside counsel.
After discussion the board voted unanimously not to retain outside counsel on a contingency-fee basis and directed Provost & Pritchard (Maija Madec) and Office Manager Amanda Rodari to file any appropriate claim through the PFAS settlement portal provided by a consultant (Ken Sansone), and to monitor detection results that could change eligibility in the future.
