The Board adopted Ordinance 2026-05 on March 16 to implement a 1% Non-Home Rule Municipal Retailers' Occupation Tax and a 1% Non-Home Rule Municipal Service Occupation Tax. Attorney Matthew Walters advised the board that "a referendum is not necessary in order to implement this 1% sale tax increase," and the board voted to adopt the ordinance.
Walters told trustees the tax is scheduled to go into effect July 1, 2026, and that revenue from the tax can be spent for any purpose until Jan. 1, 2031, after which it can only be spent on infrastructure projects. Trustee Chambers moved adoption and Trustee Ziegler seconded; the vote was recorded as all in favor by voice vote.
