Food services reports nearly 963,000 meals served and details kitchen upgrades

The Lammersville Joint Unified School District’s food services report on May 21 said the department had served about 962,509 meals as of April 30 and has used available funds to buy equipment and remodel a kitchen.
"As of April 30, we've served about 962,509 meals," the department reported. Staff said revenues to date were approximately $4.6 million with expenses leaving roughly $600,000, and that they had used those funds to purchase a delivery van, dishwashers, and to support the Lammersville kitchen remodel and a new combi oven at the high school. The department also described consultant "fresh eyes" visits from former school food directors, participation in the Chef Ann Foundation pre-apprentice and apprentice programs, and pilots of scratch-cooking menu items such as chana masala and ramen bowls.
Board members praised the department’s work and asked clarifying questions about whether the district will hit 1,000,000 meals served this year. Food services invited trustees to visit kitchens to observe operations.
