Board reviews district needs assessment, prepares budget-linked actions

The Board of Education convened a special meeting at 6:00 p.m. for its annual needs assessment review. The presenter told trustees the legislature requires all districts to complete the assessment and that each of the district’s 11 buildings submitted building-level responses for review. “This is our needs assessment meeting, annual needs assessment,” the presenter said.
The presenter walked the board through the assessment’s three required questions—what barriers must be overcome, what budget actions should be taken, and how long it will take to move all students above Level 2 on the state assessment—and explained that getting state scores in May now allows the district to analyze five-year trends in near real time. The board split into two working groups to analyze secondary and elementary data and will reconvene to finalize answers and post the approved assessment on the district website.
