Board hears first reading of district Safe Schools and site safety plans; staff highlights ongoing preparedness

At the March 19 meeting the board received a first reading of the Lammersville Joint Unified School District's 2025–26 Safe Schools Plan and school site safety plans. Staff described the annual review process and the district's safety subcommittee that coordinates with first responders and key staff.
"This district takes safety and safety preparedness very, very seriously," the superintendent said, noting the board subcommittee and regular work with first responders. Trustees asked clarifying questions about whether certain goals (for example, development of an assessment tool) have firm deadlines. Staff replied these items are part of ongoing reassessment and are not one-off tasks. "I would say it's an ongoing process," staff said when asked whether there is a specific deadline for completing the first goal.
The item will return on next month's agenda for continued review and possible action. Trustees thanked staff for their work on safety planning and expressed support for continued updates and drills.
