City accepts state grant for water‑plant fluoridation equipment

The Board approved an ordinance authorizing a program services contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to receive a community water fluoridation equipment repair and replacement grant.
Public Works Director Shelley Daniel told the board the grant helps communities purchase equipment needed to continue fluoridation of drinking water and will be used to buy water‑testing equipment for the city’s water plant. Daniel said that by accepting the grant the city agrees to maintain the equipment and provide the fluoride additive to keep the fluoridation system operational "for a minimum of five years." She added the city accepted a similar grant in 2023 and that the program is a standard supplement to local testing and equipment costs.
After two readings by title the board voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance on second reading. The city will proceed with procurement per grant terms and the public‑works department will maintain the equipment for the period required by the agreement.
