Kirkland board approves request to close Route 72 for July 4 Lions Club parade

The Village of Kirkland Board of Trustees voted to approve Resolution 2026-04, requesting that the Illinois Department of Transportation temporarily close Route 72 (Main Street) from Pearl Street to Sixth Street to permit the Kirkland Lions Club Fourth of July parade.
The approved resolution states the closure would occur "during the approximate time period between 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026." The board agreed the Village will assume responsibility for direction and protection of traffic during the detour, provide necessary signage and flaggers at the Village's expense, and furnish comprehensive liability insurance naming IDOT as an additional insured as required by the Department.
Trustee Chambers moved and Trustee Fruit seconded the motion to approve Resolution 2026-04; Trustees Marshall, Fruit, Chambers, Michener, Benes and Ziegler voted yes on roll call and the motion carried. The board instructed staff to coordinate detour signage and insurance documentation with IDOT as part of the permit process.
