Residents, CAC urge Marlborough board to reconsider ridgeline revisions

During public comment the Conservation Advisory Committee and several residents urged the Town Board to reject the revised Ridgeline Protection Law and to take a collaborative approach with the Planning Board, Town Engineer and ZBA. CAC Chair Mici Simonofsky presented a letter asking the board to retain the original 50-foot no-disturbance setback and to preserve language requiring applicants to "demonstrate to the reviewing board or Town Engineer" that structures will not extend above the tree line.
Reader-submitted letters were read into the record. Resident Cindy Lanzetta read that the code needs cleanup and urged a collaborative rewrite: “I’m still disappointed in the revisions of the changes to the Ridgeline Protection Law.” Maribeth Wooldridge-King warned that passing the changes as written would leave “a stain on this board” and asked the board to weigh long-term stewardship of the land. Other correspondents questioned why the Town Board diverged from Ulster County Planning Board recommendations.
