Board accepts state transportation grants, approves radar sign agreement

The board approved the agreement unanimously.
Daniel also described a $1.5 million Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant to finish pathway and sidewalk segments included on the voter‑approved use tax map, with project limits on Jefferson (State Route 33), State Route 92 and Regency Drive. The aldermen unanimously approved acceptance of the TAP grant.
Finally, staff reviewed a Surface Transportation Block Grant (STBG) award of $4.2 million to complete the 19th Street Complete Street Project (from the Pickleball courts area west toward Watson Drive/Paddock Drive). The board approved the STBG ordinance on second reading by unanimous roll call.
Why it matters: the combined agreements provide state authorization and funding for traffic‑safety equipment and multimodal street and pathway projects, enabling construction and improved pedestrian connectivity across multiple corridors in Kearney.
