Public Works reports wastewater overloads after heavy rains; Franklin Township Park water billing prompts leak tests

Public Works Supervisor James Stark told trustees that heavy rains in April caused wastewater infiltration and that illegal sump pump connections forced the department to run auxiliary pumps for nearly three days to prevent lagoons from overflowing.
"This required auxiliary pumps to be run for almost three days to prevent the lagoons from overflowing and to prevent any sewer backups," Stark said in the department report. Stark also reported a malfunctioning flowmeter that was repaired and calibrated, work on park cleanup and community-garden soil replacement, and maintenance on village equipment. Separately, Peter Bramm of Franklin Township Park reported receiving a Dec–Feb bill showing 1,000 gallons of usage despite the park’s B-box having been turned off Nov. 26; Public Works agreed to run additional tests to locate any leak or metering error.
Public Works and the board also discussed other ongoing maintenance decisions, including vendor choices for cold patch and equipment replacement priorities. The board approved several Public Works purchases and directed staff to pursue follow-up inspections and quotes where needed.
