Officials say Port Sanilac Lofts and wellness center moving forward; tentative ground‑breaking by April

County administrative staff gave an update Feb. 17 on the Port Sanilac Lofts and Wellness Center project, saying grant awards and brownfield activities are advancing pre-construction work.
"Tentative, very tentative with construction projects, but she's hoping by the end of April that they can be kind of breaking ground," the administrative representative said during the meeting. Staff said multiple grants and brownfield remediation planning are in play and that project proponents are coordinating next steps with grant administrators.
The administrator also reminded municipalities of an upcoming multi-jurisdiction materials-management planning meeting and suggested tracking attendance to inform future outreach. Commissioners welcomed the update but cautioned that project timetables could change pending approvals and funding flows.
