Medical-control team demonstrates lifelike training mannequins for local EMS training

Chair introduced Leah Lentz of Sandland County Medical Control, who displayed a set of simulation mannequins purchased with millage dollars and explained how they enable local EMR and paramedic training.
"So what these do is give the students ... education in the field for EMR," Lentz said, describing the mannequins' ability to simulate intubations, IV starts and other procedures used in ACLS and PALS training. Her education coordinator, Amy, demonstrated infant and adolescent mannequins and explained the program's emphasis on muscle-memory training: "When we're teaching ACLS ... we can grab the appropriate sized mannequin, and our education is all based on muscle memory."
Presenters said the set includes infant, child and adult mannequins and a miscarriage mannequin, and that some of the equipment can be transported off-site under their insurance for partner training. Commissioners praised the practical benefits and asked about scenario possibilities; Lentz and Amy said the simulator software and textbook scenarios allow many variations and that the equipment is already being used in regular weekly classes.
No county action resulted; the presentation closed with commissioners thanking the team for the demonstration.
