Committee flags contractor mistakes in science lab renovation

During the Aug. 4 special meeting the LCS Science Room Building Committee identified several vendor errors—an outlet 'buried' behind a fish-tank cabinet, mismatched cabinet finishes and handles, and countertops that are too short—and required the vendor to correct them at its expense.
Committee members reviewed progress of the science-lab renovation and flagged multiple installation problems they said were the vendor's responsibility. The minutes state the committee discovered an electrical outlet that appears to have been "buried" behind a fish-tank cabinet; the committee decided an electrician will be called to locate and move the outlet, and that the cabinet vendor will be notified to assume the cost to resolve the issue. If the outlet cannot be located, the committee noted a conduit could be run down the wall to service the fish tanks.
Members also identified finish and fit issues: the fish-tank cabinet color does not match adjacent cabinetry and the handles are not the same style, and a vendor error left countertops too short where cabinets wrap around a window. The committee required the vendor to replace and level the cabinet tops at the vendor's expense. The minutes do not record a formal vote on vendor remediation, but the committee directed that the vendor be notified to make corrections.
