Minocqua board upholds denial of operator license for Justin Smith

The Minocqua Board of Supervisors voted at a special meeting June 21 to uphold Police Chief Glenn Janzer’s recommendation to deny an operator license application filed by Justin Smith.
Police Chief Glenn Janzer told the board that Smith has multiple OWI convictions, including a fourth OWI that is a felony and a conviction as recently as 2025. Janzer said Smith currently has restrictions on his driver’s license of ".02 BAC" and that his driver’s license has been permanently revoked; based on those factors the chief recommended denial of the operator license application.
Justin Smith appealed the denial and answered questions from board members but the board did not alter the chief’s recommendation. Supervisor Billy Fried moved to uphold the denial; Supervisor Lance Krolczyk seconded the motion. The board carried the motion by voice vote.
Fried suggested that Smith could reapply if there is a modification to his record. Following the action on the operator license, Supervisor Brian Fricke moved to adjourn; the motion passed and the meeting ended at 4:25 p.m.
